Re: Disk type for master image

I'm not able to edit the properities of the disk - grayed out.

The VM is powered off. Any ideas why?

OK, I guess it's because of snapshots.

If I delete the snapshots, is there anway to add them back to the master image?

Not without re creating them.  If you need to maintain those snapshots you could clone off a second master, extend the disk, and start using that moving forward.   That will give you time to phase out the other snapshots if needed be.

User profile folders created on connection server?

Just happened to look at the C:\Users folder on my internal connection server and noticed there are profiles there for all of my users. We're connecting with zero clients to a floating desktop pool and redirecting all profiles using Persona management, so I'm surprised to see them here. Any idea why user profile folders get created on the VCS?

Trend Deep Security vs OfficeScan vs Other Anti- Virus Solutions?

$

Hello,

Our organization is currently using Deep Security 7.5 and officescan 10 for virus protection for virtual and physical endpoints.  We have 130 virtual Windows 7 desktops and around 55 virtual Windows 2008 servers using deep security and 20-30 desktops/servers using officescan.   This setup was deployed by a previous admin of the company.

I see the benifit's of deep security by scanning at the hypervisor and offloading the scanning to the DSVA.   But would and environment our size be Ok  leveraging OfficeScan (which currently is running on a hand full of virtual servers)?

Here's what I don't like about deep security.  Were a small shop and there are a lot of moving parts to consider while upgrading to Deep Security 8.  Having to upgrade vShield manger, vShield endpoint, vShield endpoint guest drivers, vCenter 5,  Deep security Manager, Deep security Filter driver, Deep Security Virtual Appliance, Deep security Agent and finally Deep Security Relay in one maintenance window.

I see this not being as much of a problem in larger orginization's where they have storage teams, server teams, application teams, etc..  but for a one man show, not so much.

Is anyone out there running Trend OfficeScan in an environment our size?

Or any other feedback from folks that use or did use deep security and have since changed to a different anti virus platform.

End state goal is trying to leverage a solution that fits our environment and not use a battle ship when I can be using a pontoon boat ; )

Thanks

Issue with View 5.2 and Wyse Terminal (P20) with Dual Monitors

Hello everyone,

I'm having an issue with our Wyse P20 terminals after we upgraded to View 5.2.

when a user first logs on the primary screen turns on but the secondary turns off and your hear Windows 7 constantly 'detecting' a device -- the sound when you connect a USB device.

If I power off the terminal and reconnect everything is OK. It seems that if you initially log on there is an issue, otherwise if the user is already 'logged on' and simply reconnects everything is OK.

Any assistance would be much appreciated!

I've seen something similar in the past which was due to a fault AD controller not replicating to the other servers in the domain.

Start by ensuring there are no errors logged on the AD server.

Let me know.

Strange issues with OSX client

Anyone ever seen anything like this? I have view rolled out, load balanced and content switched via a NetScaler. The Windows client connects fine, the HTML5 web client works great, even the iPhone/iPad/Android apps work. However, the OSX client just spins trying to connect and iterate the available desktops. Any reason that the OSX client is different from the mobile clients or the windows client? Are there any client side logs I can look at in order to troubleshoot this? Is it possible this is SSL related?

Upgrade View Servers to 5.2

Hi All,

Today I upgraded our View Servers from 5.1 to 5.2. It went fine with the Composer and Connection Servers. However I'm stuck with the Security Server.

During the Upgrade it cannot connect to the Connection Server. It appears the IPsec rules are the problem.

However at the Connection Server admin page, under Servers, Security server, the more command "Prepare for Upgrade or Re-installation" command is grey and not available.

How can I reset the IPsec rules manually?

For the moment I revert the security server to the snapshot taken before the upgrade attempt. Users are able to connect to the View desktops. In the Connection Admin console the Security Server is shown with version 5.1. In Global settings "enable IPsec for security server pairing" is checked. I unchecked it, but It had no effect for the upgrade of the security server.

Thanks,

Edy

Windows 8 thinks I have an SSD drive, but I don't

This is a strange one. I've been doing some work with our Windows 8 64-bit parent VM, and I noticed that I was running low on disk space. So I deleted all of the snapshots on the VM, then increased the size of the hard drive and extended the partition to fill the volume within Windows. That seemed to go just fine, and I had a lot more room on my C drive, so I was happy. Later, I tried to defrag the drive using the Optimize Drives utility and, as you can see from my attached screen shot, Windows 8 believed that I had an SSD drive, which I don't. I just have a traditional SAN with 15k SAS drives. The odd thing is that I can defragment the drive using the command line utility "defrag C: /U /V" and it works just fine. But within the GUI, I'm given the "Optimization not available" message. So, I took a new snapshot of the VM and deployed a pool of linked clones from it. They deployed fine, and I'm logged into one of them now, and I have the same message in the Optimize Drives utility. It doesn't appear to have any effect on the operation of the VM, as it works just fine in all other respects. I'm sure that it's related to my expansion of the C partition. Has anybody else ever seen anything like this before? I'm sure that I'll have to recreate my parent VM eventually, though this one is working fine for the limited test users we have on it for now. If anybody has any suggestions on how I can get this back to normal, I'd appreciate the help.

I've come across this before, and I found the easiest way was to remove the security server from View Administrator using the vdmadmin command from the Connection Server. The command will be something like: vdmadmin-S [-b authentication_arguments] -r-s server. The full explanation of the command is in the View Admin guide. Once you've removed it that way, you should be able to reinstall the Security Server software and get it working again.

Are you running the latest firmware from Teradici on the P20?  I believe 4.1.0 is the latest release.

Yes, I've even tried with the latest firmware -- same thing happens.

I've noticed the same thing on our Connection Server. Funny thing is it's not all of the users, just three of them. I'm having a hard time coming up with any common element among the three users, too. Mostly, I'm just commenting on this so I can see when other people comment, because I'm curious what the answer is.

Re: View 5.2 Power Policy Problem

During the View upgrade, did you upgrade View Composer prior to upgrading your Connection and Security servers? Are provisioning operations working, just not automated power operations? Since Composer is the glue that binds View to vCenter, it sounds like that might be where the issue is, but if provisioning is working, then that's probably not it.

Why would you do a defrag on a linked clone?
