Just bringing this up here.
If you use Win10 1709 for your linked clones you can have onedrive added with a new feature called "only cache file if user double clicks it".
You will see all files but dont have to sync them. We are using this even for our full full-clone environment. Its a lot safer in regards of storage.

No, only if you have direct connect enabled on the VDI and people know their direct VM name.
Question-2: View Connection Server is down, existing connections will remain connected or it will be lost?
They will not be impacted. Only if you are tunneling connections through the security gateway and its down as well.

1st Case: Secure Connection is Enabled (Answer: No, new users/sessions can't connect to any VDI )
2nd Case: Secure Connection is Disabled (Answer: Yes, new connections can be established)

Might want to add, if your using the Unified Access Gateway
Documentation for VMware Unified Access Gateway
you can restart or shutdown the connection server without affecting existing users.

I actually haven't tried this before, but there are steps for migrating the composer service to another server.
Maybe you can spin up a new VM with the new hostname and perform these steps: Migrate View Composer to Another Machine
This way, you also have a fall-back scenario.

For questions-1 your 2nd case would be a no. Your users will have their endpoint (Horizon/zero/thin client) pointed to a single URL (The connection server or a load balancer). If you were to install the Horizon View Agent Direct-Connection (VADC) in addition to the Horizon Agent then the user could change the URL to point to their desktop. You would have a better user experience and be better off standing up two or more connection servers behind a load balancer.

Just an FYI that with chrome extension version updated to 7.4.0.1, the extension seems to be working fine with App Volumes writable, as I'm no longer seeing the issue I wrote previously. However, when I attempted to playback a video from the URL added to redirection policy (i.e. Youtube), the extension icon will list it as REDR, but the video itself will not show up at all.
This happens even in the published app version of Chrome I'm using, which doesn't involve any app volumes components. Any ideas?

Can not finish creating a linked clone RDS Farm
We have been looking at using the RDS farm and application delivery in Horizon view.
I have created a test manual farm and that has been successful I can launch applications.
I have created a new VM with server 2012 R@ and installed the view agent with the composer mode option set.
When I try and set up a Farm I can get all the way through the setup to the 'Guest Customization' screen where you select the OU and domain the linked clones will be placed, but from here I cannot continue as the next button is greyed out !!
I can not for the life of me think what might be causing me not to be able to continue, nothing is coming up with an error or in red to say i have missed anything.
We are running Horizon View 7.2.0
Anyone has seen this or experienced it before?

Do you have any customization specifications? We've been using instant clone rds farms, so I have never created an linked clone RDS farm in this enviornment. I go to that screen and if there is no customization specificaiton to select the next button is grayed out. I don't think quickprep is supported in linked clone rds farms so you need a customization spec for the pool.

Windows Update service will not stay Disabled in Windows 10 Enterprise 2016 LTSB
Hi All,
Trying to get my Windows 10 parent image prepared for a linked-clone composer pool and every time I disable the Windows Update service it eventually gets set back to Manual and it starts up.
I've tried setting a Group Policy to set it to disabled in the linked-clones but it still somehow changes.
I saw this entry in the System event viewer log
"The start type of the Windows Update service was changed from disabled to demand start"
Within about a minute of that I also see these entries about other services being changed
"The start type of the Connected User Experience and Telemetry service was changed from disabled to auto start"
"The start type of the Windows Modules Installer service was changed from demand start to auto start"
Anyone know what is changing these services? We do not have anti-virus installed and we are not using SCCM so I know it's not either of those.

I am currently going trough the same process, check all the tasks in the task scheduler. There are some causing havoc. Oh and btw LTSB is sadly NOT supported for oiffice usage by Microsoft only for special cases like atm's and medical equipment.

Thanks for the reply. I just went through the VMware Optimization Tool and found all the scheduled tasks is recommends disabling and did so... I'll check Monday to see if the Windows Update service is still disabled and report back.
When you say LTSB doesn't support Office is it that it won't even install or it will install but Microsoft won't help you if you run into issues?

Not a fix to your solution but a possible workaround. You can change the permissions on the registry key so that SYSTEM cannot change it.
