Re: Enable View Storage Accelerator in production environment

First you enable View Storage Accelerator on the vCenter in Horizon View Administrator. This will reconfigure the hosts to enable CBRC (If you use host profiles they will notice the change). Then you enable it on a per pool basis. The next time the VMs in that pool are powered off the virtual disk digest needs to be created. This can take some time and the VM can't power on until it's completed so make sure to do it in advance of the users shutting down the VM and expecting it to power back on quickly.

It's definitely from the Symantec Endpoint Protection update. I rolled back some VM's to prior version and don't receive this error. The version we are currently on is 14.0 RU1 MP2.

Hi,

We have been experiencing the exact same problem with Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.0 RU1 MP1 Build 3897 on View and RDS 2012 R2.

It certainly seemed to start after the June or July windows updates.

Apart from rolling back have you found any further on resolving this?

Which version did you have success with?

We are going to update to 14.2 to see if this resolves the issues we've been running into. The previous version of 14.0 MP2 (14.0.2455.0206) that we rolled back to didn't seem to have issues.

Thanks for your response.  I did have another question that I was wondering you could maybe help with. You mentioned that you ran into issues with CarbonBlack. We are just getting started with this as well. We just deployed this to select machines late June. Starting this Monday, 6 out of the 12 VM's that have the Carbon Black Sensor (version 6.0.3.70821) installed have crashed all at the same time. The dmp file indicates that it's caused by NETIO.SYS.:
BugCheck D1, {10, 2, 0, fffff80a99d27515}Probably caused by : NETIO.SYS ( NETIO!NsiEnumerateObjectsAllParametersEx+224 )

I was just curious what you were running into.

Thanks

I don't manage CB but we've definitely seen this. Get with CB support and verify you are running the best practices for virtual desktops. I remember they had to do something with USN journal in the CB config. If these are linked clones/instant clones you need to make sure the parent is template properly in CB.

I think I just found a solution-  At least for View 7.4.

As I mentioned above, Viewdbchk seemed to work for the people that installed or last upgraded the connection broker but not for anyone else.  I started looking at file permissions for any unique/explicit permissions to user accounts but came up empty.  I also compared path/environment variables between users and nothing came of that either.  I then started poking around the registry and here's where it gets interesting!

I found a pair of keys that only had explicit permissions to individual users in our domain.  For example, Connection Broker 1's keys had "Special" permissions for Mikey and Connection Broker 2's keys only had permissions for Suzy.  They could run Viewdbchk from their respective brokers but not vice-versa. The keys I found were:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc.\VMware VDM\KeyVault\vmware_view_java

HKLM\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc.\VMware VDM\KeyVault\vmware_view_java\1

And

HKLM\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc.\VMware VDM\KeyVaultCNG\vmware_view_java

HKLM\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc.\VMware VDM\KeyVaultCNG\vmware_view_java\1

I added Domain Admins to each top level key (vmware_view_java) with Full Control (which propagated to the "\1" key) and could then run Viewdbchk under other user accounts from each connection broker.

I hope that helps everyone else!

Scanning not working via USB AIO Printer. Horizon View 7.4.0 HP Printer Dell Wyse 3040

Hello,

So we have been experiencing this issue with remote users connecting to vdi using the Dell 3040's clients. When they try to scan the scanning process goes up to 90% and then it errors out. Sometimes it works just fine, sometimes it scans one page and it errors out on the second page. We have enabled USB and Scanner re-direction, installed the latest printer drivers and latest firmware on the thin client. Also the users has to connect, disconnect and connect again in order for the usb devices to be recognized. Has anyone seen this happen and what was the resolution?

This is a persistent desktop

Office 365 account problems

Hello,

I am in the process of setting up a new VDI environment and having a very hard time with Office 365 account persistence. I am running an instant clone non-persistence desktop pool with Windows 10 Enteprise Build 1709.

I have tried Office 365 builds 1708 and 1803. I have authentication token roaming setup to the UEMProfile network share via GPO and capturing <LocalAppData>\Microsoft\Credentials via UEM (in the Office 2016 Shared Settings template).

Office 365 account persistence works for a bit but then after a while, this happens:

Capture.PNG

I have tried having these Office 365 builds via App Volume or baked into the master image. Still the same results. I am pulling my hair out on this one.

If I click "Fix Me" I have to sign back into Office 365 or sometimes just reactivate. Shared Computer activation is definitely enabled.

Has anyone ran into this problem? If you don't have this problem and have a similar setup as mine, what Office 365 build are you using? You can find a build history here:

Update history for Office 365 ProPlus (listed by date) | Microsoft Docs

I would appreciate any help on this. My next step is to open a case with VMware if I can't get it resolved. Thank you!!

Re: VMWare Horizon View Install - No reboot - MDT

May I ask how you set this up in MDT?  Specifically your deployment tasks structure and how you layed out your install switches?  For me, I'm trying MDT 8450 using Windows 10 Build 1803 or LTSB and I've created the following tasks as so,

1.  Install C++ 2008sp1 redistributable

2.  Restart computer

3.  Install VMWare Horizon View Client.

The Horizon View client version is 4.8.0-8547331 and I've tried variations of the two following switches

/silent /norestart VDM_IP_PROTOCOL_USAGE=IPv4 VDM_SERVER=server.domain.com LOGINASCURRENTUSER_DISPLAY=1 LOGINASCURRENTUSER_DEFAULT=0 ADDLOCAL=TSSO,USB

and

/S /V"/qn DESKTOP_SHORTCUT=1 VDM_SERVER=vdi.labor.ak RDPCHOICE=0 REBOOT=Reallysuppress"

and both appear to be installing the C++ and the Horizon View Client but somewhere along the way it fails.  No install directory created or any other error.  I was hoping to see what switches and processes worked for you?

Thank you.

Re: How can I change the RDS Application Icon which appear in VMware Horizon View Client ?

I agree with the shortcut method and pointing to a local .ico file if possible.

The other thing I just found while looking this up, is that (at least with RDS Applications) if you go into the Horizon Admin and click to edit your application pool, then click OK without changing anything, it updates the application icon in the Horizon client from next launch. The application and icon locations need to be valid of course.

Hi,

most of cases it do stuck in sysprep

try to remove the windows default applications from the gold image would help

To enable sareach in windows 10:

  1. Open power shell as administrator
  2. Run the below command

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

Thanks for the reply. Please post your results with 14.2. We are trying to decide whether to upgrade to 14.2 or not.

Branding default messages in Horizon Client

Hi,

Is it possible to customize the message: "All available desktop sources for this desktop are currently busy. Please try connecting to this desktop again later, or contact your system administrator" (image attached).

Got a customer who would like to add, "Call HelpDesk on blablabla" in the message when the Desktop Pool is full.

Are there any possibilities here?

Thanks,

Regards,

Kenneth
