Thanks to Matt for posting and everyone for your help. This article pointed me in the right direction:
The issue was Kaspersky Endpoint Security - we had been running version 8, and in preparation for upgrading to version 10 uninstalled it. I tried the View client after the uninstall and it worked fine. So some setting or blocking by Kaspersky was causing the issue.
Moral to the story - or general troubleshooting procedures - check to make sure you have nothing blocking or inspecting your traffic. Thanks again.
