That is the KB that I started with. It would now let me install Desktop Experience 'before' the Agent.

I installed the Agent, rebooted and than installed DE.

I'm wanted to know if anyone else followed the KB and had it work.

My one very odd experience is I don't get prompted for the Connection Server, like in a normal install of the agent; surely this should have SOMETHING to do with why the desktop is not registering. (I'm not being prompted to register)
