Hi,
I'm experimenting with running Lync 2010 under VDI (XP / Win7). For this I need a way to connect end user devices (web cams, microphone and headset) to View desktops. Since this is a green field situation I have a choice of getting audio / video hardware that is suitable for this purpose (USB, analog, Bluetooth wireless, any combination of that). End users have a combination of Windows boxes with View client installed, Windows boxes re-provisioned as thin clients (kinda same thing), and of course zero clients (Wyse P20) to further complicate things. All of these must be capable of transferring audio / video from end user into Lync 2010, hopefully with decent performance.
What caught my interest the other day is RTAV - I stumbled upon it while looking for ways to do the above, and immediately got confused with requirements. See here:
http://blogs.vmware.com/euc/2013/07/3370.html
They state I need View Horizon client on user side (easy, downloaded the latest and it connects fine to our View 4.6 servers), but state I need "Horizon View 5.2 (or later) View Agent" inside guest VM:
In addition on your guest virtual machine, you need a Horizon View 5.2 (or later) View Agent along with the VMware Horizon View 5.2 Feature Pack 2
How are we to get 5.2 View agent inside guest VM on a 4.6 View server install? Can it be done at all? I was able to install 5.3 View Agent into one of the test Windows 7 View desktops, but after it installed successfully the View 4.6 Administrator console is showing it as "Agent unreachable". I restarted both guest VM and VMware Horizon View Agent service, no change.
We use ESXi 4.1 build 1050704, View 4.6 366101 with composer, have a few pools and an upgrade to View 5.x would require quite a few things to be upgraded. If we can't get RTAV to work with View 4.6 we'll have to drop this until we can upgrade our entire infrastructure.
Thanks
