I just run into the same issue.
It seems that win2008 cannot be added to view as an UNMANAGED machine. I spent half of my day trying to come up with different scenarios and the ONLY way how I could add the win2008 vms to view was when I set the pool as a vcenter based manual or auto pool.
If I selected Other Sources for my manual pool the win2008 vms would not show up.

So to sum up my findings for win2008 as a desktop:
-vcenter managed, manual or auto pool > OK
-unmanaged, manual: NOT OK
-unmanaged terminal > OK
Cam anyone confirm this?
