Well its a quick change, and if its being experienced regularly then just do it for that vm or set of vms, atleast then you can compare desktop a,b,c where the config has been changed to desktop d,c,e where it has not been changed.
it worked well for us as our usuers kept accidentaly disconnecting their nics.
i only needed to change this once in the master image though as we are using non persistant link clones.
