I may not have used the correct terminology, I’d like to clarify the application.
We’re migrating approximately 40 traditional Windows 7 PCs to a virtualized architecture. The PCs run a single HMI application allowing operators in a manufacturing environment to monitor and control an industrial process. We want to replace the traditional PCs with thin-clients that will establish RDP connections to the vms running the HMI application. The replacement will take place over an extended period of time (a couple of years). Terminal Services is not appealing so we plan to have a single vm for each thin client. Actually, a few thin clients will support three monitors so the output from three vms will be displayed through those clients. I’m mainly trying to figure out which version(s) of vSphere/vCenter support cloning where the cloning process allows the user to specify the new virtual machine computer name and IP address.
Horizon View seems to include some functionality that we won’t need because we plan to use software from another vendor to manage the thin clients.
