Re: After recompositioning W7 linked clone: No OS found

I created a pool with max. 10 guests. Up to four were created during testing. All four guests are facing the problem, so the latter applies.

There is a directory called "replica-........" with these files in it. Is that what you were looking for?

Replica.jpg

I'll checked the time when the snapshots of the parent were created (is that relevant?). The file list shows 12:50, the snapshots were cretated 12:28, 14:31 and 14:51.

I have three snapshots from the parent, now. All from the first snapshot (v1). And three guests in the pool. Does that correspond to what you see in the listing?

I go and change the pool to snapshot v2 and create another guest.

BTW, a new guest based on a newer snapshots of the parent (the snapshot I want to recompose the other guests to) is working. Until I recompose it for the first time.

Ok, that is what I would expect to see.    Did that guest come online correctly?

Best Practice for internal client Connectivity with Horizon View 6

Hi All,

I have View setup with a Connection and Security server.  Internal clients connect directly to the connection server for authentication, while external clients go thru the Security server.  Recently, a friend of mine and I were debating our setups.  He has all of his traffic going to the Security server.  His setup seems to be supported by the latest diagrams in the View 6 documentation.  What is the best practice?

Thanks!

Do you have a link to those diagrams?    Was there some specific goal that he needed to obtain that led him to that type of design?

The picture with the red lines for external and the green for internal?

On my first glance it looked, to me, like the load balancer was sending external traffic to the Security Servers and internal to just the connection brokers.   In a more detailed review I do see that the internal cross over into the "DMZ" box but honestly I don't know why you would do that.    I thought maybe you wanted to tunnel all your traffic but in that case you could still just push your internal traffic to a CB with tunneling enabled.   There would be no need to send it to the security server.

Maybe someone from VMware can respond to clarify the interpretation of the document and any pros for running everything through the security server.

Resource Calculation Question

Guys,

I need to plan VDI for 80 users, 70 of them are task users, the remaining 10 knowledge users.  I'm going to create a floating pool for task users and another floating (or dedicated if it makes a difference) with persona management for ten knowledge users.  How do I calculate resources I would need?  All virtual desktops are Windows 7 64 bit, full parent machines disks are 32GB. I need 2-3 snapshots per pool.  Any guidelines highly appreciated.

Mac client receiving "this desktop does not support the requested display protocol" error

I have installed the latest version of VMware on my MacBook and receive the error in the title when I try to connect to a Windows Terminal server. When I use VMware on a Windows 7 machine, I do not have this error. I read in some old posts to change the display type to PCoIP, but I do not have that option. This may be a limitation set by our admins.

Cool.  That is what I thought as well, but would love VMware to hop in and provide a their thoughts.  I appreciate you weighing in on this subject.

Windows Phone 8.1 View Client?

Does anybody know if VMware has or plans to create a View Client app for Windows Phone?

I can definitely see how that diagram is confusing, but it is intended to show internal clients going through the load balancer directly to the connection servers. If you look at the architecture guide and whitepapers they all show internal clients bypassing the security servers.

In principle yes. That one first runs into the Microsoft Windows Repair process. After canceling that the guest bootes normally and run into the VMWare image process. After that it was fine.

Thank you for the clarification.  Since that image is used all over the web, perhaps it is a good take back for VMware to get it clarified?

Yes, thanks. I've raised it internally and we'll get it updated in a future version.

I found a workaround of installing the Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac from here. VMware will launch RDC and the client can connect. I tested another machine that doesn't have RDC installed and it can connect to the same Terminal Server without issue.

I had the same issue. On AD server, the GPO policies have been missing. When deploying pool, the container selected is not picking up view admin resulting this issue. I tried to resolve it by restarting the "Active Directory Domain Services" service on Active Directory so got all GPO polices back. It worked. Not sure if appropriate to mention it here but immediately pool got created and rolled back with a error"View Composer AD Fault":Failed to perform Active Directory operation. COM Error code:2147016651. Will try to post the steps if it is resolved. Thanks

Taking out the Connection server out of AD domain and putting it back solved this issue.

This can be classified as Windows issue

What credentials do I use to Initialize the federation? Does this need to be a service account or can I just use my creds?
