Thanks for responding so promptly.  Yes you are correct in saying that we want to keep the audio local.  As for the handset, it's not the buttons, but rather the Lync integration that USB tethering facilitates. This includes authentication, calendar synchronisation, access to contacts, call logs, call from Desktop (ring/answer on handset) , etc,

Lync is indeed installed in Windows 7 (32bit) vm and we are now using View Client 5.2.0-987719 on a Windows 7 (32bit) endpoint.
