Re: Failed View 5.3 upgrade

Yes there is no errors in the vent log. That is the issue everything installs fine you can see it updated by looking at add\remove programs, it shows 5.3 is installed.

This is one of 4 connection servers that we have in a replicated group.  But per the 5.2 install instructions I get to the point where you are supposed to test the connection after the upgrade and I get no connection. So at that Point I have rolled back.

Have you tried upgrading a different server in the replica group?   This way you can rule out a server specific error.

I have not with the new client and Windows 8.1, there is a few trix to make it work with Windows 7 and the older clients.

What issues are you seeing and did you try some of the tweaks?

Re: Upgraded client OS to WIndows 8.1 - Minimize, Maximize and Close Buttons Missing

I was having the same exact problem with my Windows 8.1 VM.  If you click the location where the buttons should be, it still works like they are there.  Someone else mentioned it was an issue with the version of VMware Tools installed on the VM.  I opened Device Manager on the VM and then uninstalled the VMware Display Adaptor, including the software for the driver.  After doing that, I scanned for hardware changes and it reinstalled the display adaptor using a windows driver.

RTAV Test Utility Available for download!

We have just released a small app we use internally as a VMware fling, and wanted to share this with you all.

This application verifies the correct installation and operation of the View Horizon Real-Time Audio-Video functionality. It provides a player that displays the “virtual webcam” feed, and also loops back the audio if required. This allows for testing without a third party app (which often requires user accounts such as Skype, WebEx, etc.). The application can also perform load testing by forcing the video and audio stream to continuously run again, without a third party app dropping the call after a period of time. The application can be run without needing to be installed and so it can be a very quick and easy way to validate that the camera, microphone, speakers and virtual webcam are working correctly.

Features

  • Displays webcam images at 1:1 resolution
  • Automatically starts streaming images when launched (and audio will be looped back if selected)
  • Ability to loop the audio-in back to audio-out
  • No need to create user accounts to see RTAV
  • Supports the VMware Virtual Webcam and Physical Webcams

Hope you find it useful!

Re: External USB video adapter with Wyse P20 on View 4.6

Hi,

Do you know for sure or are you assuming because it's a zero client? Can you point me to anything written about that? I've looked at all materials I could find about P20 and nowhere did I find specifically that USB video adapters are not supported. We have a bunch of devices here in house that work fine with P20, USB sticks, keyboard, mouse, headsets and such, so why would a USB video adapter be any different?

Thanks

View Planner 3.0 help

Is this the correct forum for planner support?

I have the benchmark 95% complete and can do single local runs and single RDP runs with View 5.3.

Im trying to configure the View Server and the docs require PowerShell 1.0. WindowsServer8-R2 comes with PowerShell 3.0 installed and I cant see a way to downgrade it. It seems like the docs are assuming Im using Windows Server 2003.

The ViewPlanner.log file gives me a View server connection error when I do the PCoIP run and when I run  the python test on the VIew Server as described in the manual it gives me a powershell error.

Whats the correct setup for Windows Server 2008 R2 and planner 3.0?

Any suggestions?

Thanks ... Joe.

Can you give some specific applications that do not work so we can test?

I've seen really slow View service restart times too. Just had this happen yesterday after installing the December MS updates.  Never had it take 45 minutes, but 10-15 minutes isn't uncommon, and it's long enough that you start wondering if it's coming back. (This is on View 5.2 BTW)

I'll be interested to see if someone has an explanation/solution.

Got the same message as you with Passmark Performance test, but then I tried a few specific DX10 benchmarks, 3D Mark Advantage and Call Of Juarez Benchmark.

These two worked fine.

My conclusion is that Passmark does not detect DX10 for some reason but it does work fine.
Did you have any other applications that is complaining?

Hi

With the exception of keyyboard and mice, your USB devices does not actually work with the P20 itself, but are redirected to your Windows vm, and installed there. In theory this could also work with the USB display adapters, but would consume a lot of bandwith for one thing. I do not think this will satisfy your needs, if it would work at all...

Cons for using vCenter appliance in a View enviroment?

$

Hi,

I'm trying to look up the pros and cons for using vCenter applicance instead of Windows version in a View VDI solution. without not much luck.

I'm planning a floating pool with linked-clones. Using newest vSphere version with storage improvements such as Disk space reclamination and Host caching. Also would like to try VSAN. any big considerations I need to take here?

Its not a large enterprise, maybe 100+ users.

One of the cons it that you will need at least one Windows box for View Composer.
