Ok, I had to do a little research since we don't use Windows 8 for our users yet, but I do have a Surface Pro I did some testing on.

So apparently to clamp down on malicious programs changing file associations for users at will, they added a Hash value. Take a look for example at my .log file association I changed...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.log\UserChoice

"Hash"="ekHLRBc3KiU="

"ProgID"="Applications\AcroRd32.exe"

Apparently this Hash won't be right if copied straight to another desktop. I'm guessing this is why you are having issues.  Maybe it's working sometimes if the user gets connected back to the same VM?

Check out this link to get you started....

thank you Mark

is anyway we can use Certification without smartcard ?

I was looking at documents online and it seems all need smartcard didn't saw any of them without smartcard

No. Windows itself requires client certificates to be on a Smart Card.

Look ok at the RADIUS vendor options if you just want 2FA without a token or Smart Card.

I'm having the same issues.  Lab of 66 student computers.  Random disconnects on Zero Clients. I'll update as I find more information.

Hey Voelk01,

What Firmware version is the Zero Client running?  We are running 4.1 at the moment because I haven't yet updated the PCoIP Management Console to be compatible with the new profile settings.  Just checking in case it's a firmware thing.

Thanks

I should add that when we get disconnects, they seem to occur together.  We'll have multiple fail in a row at near the same time.

Agree with Tony.  Depending on what is slow, there are likely additional tweaks you can make to improve performace.

In order to get a baseline disconnect to compare against, I powered off a Zero Client and then checked the VM that was disconnected.  The same events show up.  So I don't believe these events to be related to the issue.  Let me know what firmware you are running though.

Thanks.

I can look into it and get back to you. Give me some time. FYI.. VMware will release new Workspace with only one VM i.e 2.1 on 9 Sep. Things may change...

Hello rcmcguir,

at first I want to say thank you for your help!

I understand what you mean. I will build up a desktop pool with only one virtual machine so I can test it if it's only working when I get connected to the same machine as before.

The thing with the hash value could be the reason so you may be right. I will try the technet article and I will tell you if it's working.

Thanks again!

EDIT:

I generated a xml file which contains all my file associations and it is working perfectly! Thank you so much!

As I stated above, the OS itself is fine, anytime I ping the "view.connectionserver" it always returns my local server.  Never ran into any issues until they moved to the newer clients.

VMware-viewclient-x86_64-5.3.0-1042023.exe: Anytime I try to connect to "view.connectionserver" it always connects me to my local server.

VMware-Horizon-View-Client-x86_64-2.3.0-1551379.exe: Anytime I try to connect to "view.connectionserver" it will connect me to a random server.

VMware-Horizon-View-Client-x86_64-3.0.0-1887158.exe: Anytime I try to connect to "view.connectionserver" it will connect me to a random server.

MAC user is not seeing local printers in View session

I have a MAC user running OSX on his MacBook Pro. He has the newest View client version 3.0 installed and shows "printing enabled" . He has an Epson printer installed via his LAN. On the MAC it shows use as "AirPrint". We have tried deleting it and installing with the printer hard connected to the LAN and no change. What other issues could cause this? We are referencing this guide for View printing on MAC OSX.  I believe the agent on the VM is 5.3. Any ideas on this one?

WARNING WARINING WARNING

Clicking on the download link for this tool on 9/5/2014 and my firewall stopped the download and reported the file is infected with a ZBOT Trojan. I HIGHLY recommend NOT RUNNING or downloading this tool until somebody at VMware explains this. DO NOT RUN THIS on any master image or you may be installing a Trojan for all of your linked clones or other guests!.

VMware OS Optimization Tool - Has "ZBOT TROJAN" via download!

According to my Dell 4500 NSA series firewall, and its subscription services, this link  https://labs.vmware.com/flings/vmware-os-optimization-tool has the ZBOT TROJOAN when clicking on the RED hyperlink to download the file.

WARNING DO NOT DOWNLOAD OR CLICK ON THE RED HYPERLINK UNTIL SOMEBODY AT VMWARE CAN EXPLAIN.

until then, I am going to trust my Dell 4500 NSA series firewall and its subscription services and not ever download this file as it could infect my master images and push Trojans out to all of my linked clones.

This was stopped by my firewall scanning for viruses 'on the wire' when attempting the download and not via my antivirus software on my client.

I just ran it through virustotal.com and came back fine, hopefully yours is a false positive.

View Multi-Tenancy

$

I'm sure there has to be a discussion I'm not finding on this, but here is what I am looking for:

Presently, View (5 or 6) can ONLY belong to one domain.

Multi Tenant vCloud implementations are OK with having more than one domain (or sub domain) within the tenant space, but as far as I can see, View ONLY supports folders with different permissions and roles within each of the folders (or at the top level).  It is possible to setup a trust between the domains for authentication, but that places a burden on the "original" domain if you want to setup domain based roles in View.

Has anyone seen or heard of any information that points to this becoming a true multi domain or multi tenant solution outside of embedding View within a vCloud cell?

Thanks,

Roger
