That could be the problem. Unfortunately I'm not the admin on the vCenter server, so I have to wait for our admin to do this and confirm that it works. Meanwhile, when setting up a new environment with a new vCenter server, everything works flawless with View 6.
Re: Cannot add vcenter server in View 6: cannot finish because of the invalid certificate
Re: Recomposing a disabled pool
I've seen this behavior before. I've also seen if a VM is already in maintenance mode and you start a task ,refresh or recompose, it will not accept the task until the VM has been removed from maintenance mode.
I've actually don't have an issue with nothing working while the pool is disabled. In my mind when you disable a pool then your disabling everything including potential jobs, task, etc.
Re: After recompositioning W7 linked clone: No OS found
AWo, did you ever get this worked out?
Re: VMware OS Optimization Tool - Has "ZBOT TROJAN" via download!
Just to follow up and tie up loose ends, I had VMware's security team which has some really smart security experts do a full analysis on the binary and site. There was no threat's shown by either and both are verified safe.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention, but it has been verified a false positive. I would contact Dell/SonicWall to let them know in the matter.
Re: VMware OS Optimization Tool
The tool has been verified as not a virus. See
Re: Recomposing a disabled pool
Thanks for the response and confirms I'm not going crazy. As I was typing it out it made sense but the maintenance mode piece is slightly annoying. Not a massive problem as you can obviously schedule the recompose and it will place then in maintenance mode until the desktops have be recomposed.
Re: Recomposing a disabled pool
Zaim33,
The purpose of disabling a pool is to stop everything, but not delete it. You can disable a pool to stop logins and provisioning, queue the operations you want, and re-enable the pool. Because we allow inline maintenance it has never been a real issue. You can always recompose individual desktops or even groups, rather than the entire pool if you need to do maintenance while a pool is in use. Once you've marked VM's for a recompose, of course they will become unavailable for login. There are a number of strategies for doing this to keep things moving while the pool is in use. This has been by design ever since View 4.5ish.
If you need some help figuring out the best way to plan maintenance, let me know!
Re: View & CPU Ready
The bottom line is that no, moving to 2 vCPUs will not help with this. 6:1 usually is fine, but YMMV - it all depends on user workload.
Re: Certificate error
Dmitri,
The most common issue is here is the friendly name, which you've checked, the compatability level, and the private key being exportable. More than likely you don't have the root CA bundled with your cert or your key isn't exportable would be my best guess.
Are you using an MS CA?
Re: deploying vmware view 6
There isn't a real difference if you do standalone or not - it just depends on what resources you have available. I've done both and both work well.
Re: Persona Management support for 2008 R2 SP1 in Horizon View.
I haven't heard of it in the pipeline in terms of backporting, but that doesn't mean it isn't in the plan. I'll forward a link to this conversation to some people who would know and if they can say hopefully they'll add some color. I would imagine you'll not see 81. support backport, but persona possibly.
Re: Session ending warning
I don't believe there has been a warning before disconnect (only logoff) for quite some time in View. What version did you last see this behavior in? I can double check, but IIRC it has only been on logoff - not disconnect - for all of 5.x
Re: Changing password after expiration notice
OK, so just to post a resolution so everyone knows, we ended up receiving a new view agent direct connect build from the development team. We have rolled it out for one of our hosted customers and it does seem to fix the problem. I would imagine this will be going to production as a new build soon.
Re: View & CPU Ready
I know where the BIOS settings are for high performance, however where are the High settings for ESXi you speak of located in the C# gui? Thank you
Re: View stops communicating with vCenter
There are a number of things that can cause this, from minor network outages to vcenter resource issues. If you post your logs I could take a look and see if it's clear, but it's hard to say without more information. When this happens, what do the resources on your vcenter server look like?
Re: Recomposing a disabled pool
That is a top answer and clear. Thanks for that.
Re: View & CPU Ready
Re: Persona Management support for 2008 R2 SP1 in Horizon View.
Hi,
Thanks for your patience and sorry for the confusion. Support for W2K8 as a desktop and Windows 8.1 was added in Horizon 6.0. Other than bug fixes, these were the primary features added in this release for Persona.
Thanks,
Erik
Re: View & CPU Ready
Just as I thought, the properties button is greyed out, i guess that means I have it disabled somewhere? Or perhaps it is picking up from the Dell bios it is disabled?
Re: VMware OS Optimization Tool - Has "ZBOT TROJAN" via download!
Good news, thanks for everybody checking.
- This was a critical issue for us in a corporate environment as we have to adhere to our own security rules regardless of if we believe something is not true. The severity of a zbot Trojan on a master image could literally destroy everything for us and crash our entire Horizon View environment.
- I had opened a ticket with DELL the same day this issue was discovered with the file and/or website and/or the plugin button for the download used for this file from the labs.VMware website.
- We were not sure if a round robin was going on with the download button pointing to download1, download2, download3...and so on. But we were consistently being redirected to download3.
The combination of having to agree to "not use in a production environment", and the Trojan warning set off some serious red flags for us.
It looks like either Dell has whitelisted this for their SonicWall customers or something was fixed at VMware.
As of 9/10/14 I can now download the file behind our "Gateway Antivirus Service".
