This should be the same process for 2012/Win8 as it is for 2008/Win7 : Install Desktop Experience on an RD Session Host Server
Re: How to configure VMWare view 6 RDS published desktops looks like windows 8.1
Re: Desktop pool without domain
Linked clone pools provisioned by Composer require a domain to be specified as part of the customization. The older full clone pools only require a vCenter Customization Specification to be used however, and it's not required to specify a domain as part of that. You can also set up your VMs by hand or an external tool and add them to a manual vCenter pool instead of provisioning them through View.
Note that if they are not joined to a trusting domain your users will need to authenticate twice when connecting - once to the connection server and a second time to the desktop VM itself with local credentials.

Re: Desktop pool without domain
Another idea is to use the Direct Connect plugin instead, that will also reduce the need for a connection broker, AD, DNS etc.
Maybe that does not fit your need and will be more manual steps so it is more suitable for a smaller setup like 10 vms or less.

can't enable http protocol on connection server
Hello,
according to view-61-scenarios-ssl-certificates.pdf, I added a locked.properties file under C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware View\Server\sslgateway\conf
serverProtocol=http
serverPortNonSSL=8670
serverHostNonSSL=0.0.0.0
and then restarted the service even the connection server, but got nothing changed.
netstat -na output:

Outlook
Hi,
We are working on VMware View 5.1 and the desktops pools are both floating and Dedicated. User are configured with Outlook client for IMAP Gmail account, and once
the configuration is done the size is around 5 times the normal PST size which is configured on the local desktop. Ex= If Local Desktop PST file size is showing =200 MB
the same is showing 5 GB in VMware View VDI floating pool desktop. It is gmail IMAP account.
Let us know why this is happening and any suggestions to the same and it is highly critical as user space is getting more in network share.
Again if any information is required let us know.
Thanks
Ramesh
Re: Outlook
I can't think of any reason that View would impact the size of that file. Have you verified that the same configuration, gpo, etc is being applied to the View desktops as it is to the physical desktops. Also, see this KB to compact the size of the pst to free up space after you have deleted items.

Re: View Persona advice
Two file servers utilizing a DFS-R folder pair between them as a landing site for your Persona data should work fine in your scenario. Clustering (via shared storage) with MSCS is messy inside a VMware environment -- if you can afford the 2x space requirement of DFS-R that's the way to go [if your storage is Dedupe capable the second server is basically free anyways].
Re: Windows 10 Support in Horizon View
As far as I know, Windows 10 is compatible with VMware horizon already, but your hyper-visor isn't fully...which will need an update to be released shortly.
Re: Horizon Client Freezes for 3-5 Seconds Randomly
Interesting this was posted because I experience this as well... Horizon 6.1.1 here. But I only experience this with my Dell Venue with the windows client. If I'm using my P25 zero client it doesn't do it. But I see the same issues sometimes where the VM freezes up but I can move the mouse and even minimize the VM session and look at the local Dell Venue and everything seems fine...I always just chalked it up to the thin client causing it or a network lag somewhere. We are also using an all flash storage.
Re: VMNames limit reached. Cannot create npvdi10
use "npvdi0 {n:fixed=2} Resulting VM names npvdi001> and it will VMNames limit reached at 099
Should you have to exceed 099 VMs in a pool you can edit and use this example "npvdi01{n:fixed=2}" Resulting VM names npvdi0101>
If you use {n:fixed=3} Resulting VM names npvdi0001>
I hope this helps

Re: Thinprint port name
Not sure about your first question, but to answer your second question, try this:
Use the REG_DWORD registry setting HKLM\SOFTWARE\ThinPrint\TPAutoConnect\DisableSettingOfDefPrinter in the VM. Set it to 1 to prevent Thinprint from changing the default printer. If the key does not exist, create it:
DWORD:1
Name: DisableSettingOfDefPrinter
Value: 1
Location: HKLM\SOFTWARE\ThinPrint\TPAutoConnect\
It worked for us.
Or you can try this:
Terence Luk: VMware View virtual desktop printers defaulting to thinprint redirected printers
Re: Outlook
Thanks for the response, we would like to know what type of policy that would have been applied to get this affected.

Re: can't enable http protocol on connection server
On the face of it, it looks like the config should be picked up. A couple of things to check:
1. Make sure that you've not accidentally created "locked.properties.txt", I've seen this more times than you'd think!
2. Check the debug log file during service startup for information (c:\programdata\vmware\vdm\logs), you should see something along the lines of "Server mode: HTTP_FORWARD" along with the other configuration lines

Hi,
I am having a problem on a new Horizon View installation, my Windows 7 pools work fine however my XP pools come up with the following errors:

I have checked connectivity to the connection servers, I tried manually installing the Root CA when i saw the reference to missing thumb prints
I am running everything on 2012 r2 including the domain, Horizon View 6.1 and the highest supported agent 6.0.2 on the desktops.
Any pointer would be greatly appreciated.

Re: XP - ERRORMESSAGE=Missing thumbprints
I have figured it out and it was staring me right in the face (almost)....
how to enable client keyboard layout and IME
Now, I use windows client, windows 8.1, and server side is windows 8.1 too. I am from internalization team of global company, so I need to use different keyboard and IMEs. So how could I change my keyboard layout or IME in the virtual desktop session? For example, I initially connect to server using chinese IME with EN keyboard layout. in the VDI session, I want to key in DE words, so I should enable DE keyboard layout. How should I change the keyboard layout. Another case, I have 6 IMEs in local machine, could I use my local IME instead of server IME? Thanks.

Re: Please help, I am not able to install View connection server
This was a big help to me. I looked over as much documentation and forum info. that I could find with this error, only to find here on your post that it can't be installed on the same server as vCenter. Good look eeg3!
